On the occasion of the Ministerial Conference on “Nuclear Science, Technology and Technical Cooperation Programme” held at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 26 November, China successfully hosted a side event on "Atom for a Better Home and the Global South". The China Isotope and Radiation Association (CIRA) formally signed a Practical Arrangement (PA) with the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) in the field of radioisotopes and radiation technology.

This is a important milestone for both parties and will further strengthen their cooperation in this field, demonstrating China's influence and participation in global nuclear technology applications, which is of great significance in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology and sustainable development around the world.

 

Zhang Junqi, Vice President of the China Isotope and Radiation Association (CIRA), and Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director General of the IAEA, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. The signing was witnessed by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Deputy Director General Liu Hua, Secretary General of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) Huang Ping, Ambassador Li Song and Counsellor Liu Guanghui of the Permanent Mission of China in Vienna, and Chief Accountant Wang Xuejun of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).

According to this PA, the two sides will further deepen international exchanges and cooperation in the field of nuclear technology applications, jointly organize academic and training activities, seminars and other meetings, and exchange publicly available technical documents, publications and other information. At the same time, the two sides will also provide support and assistance to each other's database development work in their respective fields.

 

The China Isotope and Radiation Association (CIRA) is the first industry organization in the field of nuclear technology applications in China to sign an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and has become an important partner of the IAEA in the field of nuclear technology applications. The successful signing of this cooperation agreement is an important step in further expanding the scope and depth of cooperation on the basis of long-term cooperation and mutual trust between the two sides. The two sides will continue to strengthen their cooperation and promote the application of nuclear technology in various fields, including medicine, industry, agriculture, environmental protection and security, so as to make a positive contribution to the use of nuclear technology to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

As a major industry organization in the field of nuclear technology applications in China, it is committed to promoting the high-quality development of the nuclear technology applications industry. In recent years, under the long-term guidance and strong support of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), it has organized several events and participated in the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the field of nuclear technology applications.

 

In addition, CIRA has received high-level officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for research and investigation in China on several occasions, which has further deepened the understanding and cooperation between the two sides; co-organized the declaration of the project proposal of the IAEA Framework of National Plans for Technical Cooperation (2022-2027); and actively recommended industry experts to participate in relevant IAEA training and workshops, which has enhanced the professionalism and international influence of the two sides in the field of nuclear technology applications.

The signing of this agreement is not only a fruitful outcome of years of cooperation between the two sides, but also a good expectation for future cooperation. The China Isotope and Radiation Association (CIRA) will continue to adhere to the concept of openness, cooperation and win-win situation, and together with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), actively build a high-end platform for industrial exchanges, cooperation and exhibitions, and research in nuclear technology between China and other countries in the world, so as to build consensus on industrial cooperation, promote international business exchanges and showcase China's solutions, China's wisdom in promoting the development of the global industry in the field of nuclear technology applications.
