The X-ray Application Seminar, organized by the China Isotope and Radiation Association（CIRA）, was successfully held on June 27 in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Secretary-General Guo, Lili, with the attendance of nearly 20 industry experts.
During the seminar, Gao, Meixu, Deputy Researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, introduced the background and progress of the revision project for "National Standard for Food Safety - Hygienic Specifications for Food Irradiation Processing" (GB 18524-2016). The revision of this standard, which was initiated in October 2022, aims to address issues such as restricting the development of food irradiation technology, meeting the insufficient demand for irradiated food types in the market, and lack of coordination and consistency among existing standards.
Secretary-General Guo, Lili pointed out that the revision of this standard aims to better enforce food safety laws and allow irradiation technology to play a greater role in ensuring food safety and supply in China. The focus of the revision is to expand the types of irradiated foods and improve radiation processing techniques.
During the presentation session, Hou, Zhiqiang, Deputy General Manager of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation's Irradiation Technology Co., delivered a report on "Analysis of X-ray Device Irradiation Application." Xu, Qing, Vice President of Sales for the Asia-Pacific Market at IBA Industrial Division, presented a report on "Global Applications and Development Trends of X-ray Technology." Zeng, Ziqiang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Technology at the China Institute of Atomic Energy, delivered a report on "Analysis of X-ray Application Technologies." Shi, Hao, Deputy General Manager of Sunway Technology (Beijing) Co., presented a report on "Design and Application of Target Rotation in X-ray Devices." Lu, Jieping, Deputy Chief Engineer and Director of the Technical Quality Center at China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation's Dasheng Accelerator Technology Co., delivered a report on "Application Practice of 5MeV X-ray Equipment." Wei, Jiangtao, General Manager of Yangling Hesheng Irradiation Technology Co., presented a report on "Construction Background and Application Status of 5MeV/150kW High-Frequency High-Voltage Electron Accelerator Target Rotation X-ray Device". These reports shared the latest domestic and international application directions, market conditions, and future development prospects.
During the seminar, Yang, Bin, Senior Engineer at the Department of Science and Technology of Tianjin Medical University, presented the budget for the special funds of the standard revision project. Huang, Min, Deputy Director of Sichuan Atomic Energy Research Institute, introduced the cooperation plans with relevant parties and the major work to be advanced and carried out.
In the discussion session, Chen, Qiang, Deputy General Manager of China National Irradiation Corporation, Liu, Ge, General Manager of CNNC Bini Nuclear Technology Co. (Beijing), Peng, Wei, Senior Engineer at Beijing Zhimi Radiation Technology Institute, Yao, Jinrong, General Manager of Wuxi Futeng Irradiation Technology Co., Jiang, Hao, Deputy Director of the Irradiation Division at Shandong Lanfu High Energy Physics Technology Co., and Li, Qiangjie, Deputy General Manager of the Irradiation Division at Wuxi Aibang Radiation Technology Co., all expressed their recognition and support for the GB 18524-2016 standard revision project and the project team. They provided suggestions, proposed revision contents, discussed cooperation resources, and offered opinions and suggestions on the encountered problems and possible solutions.
